I have decided that talking is way overrated. When I was in high school, if you asked my friends to give one word to describe me they would all say "talkative". I would talk anytime, anywhere, and usually too loud. As I got older I realized that not everyone wanted to hear what I had to say so I lowered the volume and only talked about things I knew about or had some kind of experience with. Now that I am much older I have come to the realization that I don't have a whole lot of interesting things to say and that I really just like to listen. I am not upset by this, in fact it is kind of freeing. In one sense, I don't have to try to fill the silence like I did when I was younger. On the other hand however it does get kind of awkward at hubby's work functions. He always leaves me alone with someone I barely know and thinks we will "hit it off" and really....we don't. He thinks I should get together with the wife of one of the other lawyers because she's a SAHM and our kids are roughly the same age. I know her and the only thing we have in common is that our husbands work at the same firm.
Not talking does cause some problems with family. Like my mom who thinks that I'm mad at her because I'm not talking to her. Or my sister who says things like "you used to talk all the time in HS". hello! HS was 20 years ago! I also rolled up my jeans and rocked out to New Edition. Grow up.
I do wonder if I am doing my kids a disservice by not talking about anything and everything. I do let them know that I am here for them but I don't babble on about just anything. Also, just like kids, they don't listen when I talk anyway!
Bottom line is I don't really like to talk all that much anymore. and I am ok with that even if others aren't.

Yeah yeah, but I like to hear what you have to say. I learn from you and your life - so like it or not, you're going to have to talk to me! :)! Can't wait for lunch tomorrow, I miss you friend!
